چکیده

In Vol. xliv,rNo. 5, page 614, the third column in Section A of Protocol V should show the death of all of the mice. Two died within 24 hours, two within 48 hours, and the last within 72 hours. The appended diagram giving the correction for this column can be pasted in place on the original protocol.

Microbic Virulence and Host Susceptibility in Paratyphoid-enteritidis Infection of White Mice. I

1. Six strains of paratyphoid-enteritidis bacilli, isolated from man and animals, differed markedly in virulence for mice. 2. The inherent virulence of each strain for mice was not affected by repeated intraperitoneal and per os mouse passage. 3. Individual differences in the susceptibility of the mice to each strain and to graded doses of mercury bichloride were demonstrable. Such variations a...

Microbic Virulence and Host Susceptibility in Paratyphoid-enteritidis Infection

Experimental studies t indicate that strains of paratyphoid-enteritidis bacilli differ among themselves in virulence but that for each strain, virulence is relatively a fixed property. I t seemed desirable, therefore, to test this point by a series of per o s passages which would at the same time afford an opportunity to observe infection under more usual conditions and to analyze more accurate...

Microbic Virulence and Host Susceptibility in Paratyphoid-enteritidis Infection of White Mice

When 5 per cent of butter fat or cod liver oil is added to a bread and milk diet, in itself adequate to promote the breeding and rearing of a healthy stock of mice through a period of years, the resistance of these mice to per os infection with the paratyphoid mouse typhoid bacillus (B. pestis caviae), as compared to that of mice on the unmodified diet, is definitely increased. A similar effect...

The Rôle of Microbic Virulence, Dosage, and Host Resistance in Determining the Spread of Bacterial Infections among Mice

1. Several mouse populations under experimental observation were infected with B. enteritidis typhoid. The infection took the form of periods of low grade mortality interspersed with epidemiform outbreaks. During the periods of low grade mortality, the number of daily deaths was either relatively constant or rhythmic in 9 day intervals. The epidemiform outbreaks were associated invariably with ...

Bacterium Lepisepticum Infection

In this paper we have attempted to describe the manner of spread of an endemic, native, respiratory infection and a method for its control. The essential factor determining the prevalence of such an endemic disease is, we believe, host susceptibility, which is controlled by hereditary and environmental influences. Furthermore, it seems probable that the amount of this population susceptibility ...
